In this research project, I will develop a new conceptualization of the critical counter-voice in contemporary art practice. In Dutch educational institutions, the 19th and 20th -century concept of autonomy is often used to describe this critical counter-voice in the practice of art. However, this concept no longer seems appropriate under the neoliberal political conditions of the 21st century. I will investigate how a new conceptualization can be made usable in Dutch art educational institutions to deal adequately with contemporary practices
