The Netherlands Institute of Cultural Analysis (NICA) and Amsterdam Comics announce a workshop and invitation to the international conference “Comics Interaction.”
The workshop on comics will take place at the University of Amsterdam on Friday, 5 June 2015 from 14:00-17:00. The three hour session, led by drs. Rik Spanjers and Dr. Erin La Cour, will give participants an overview of the major strands of research in the burgeoning field of comics studies, including (the often overlapping) discourses on trauma, memory, history, space, art, genre, and politics. The session will be comprised of lectures and group discussion. Students will be required to read select seminal texts in advance of the masterclass.
Students who participate in the workshop will also be invited to attend the international conference, “Comics Interaction,” which will take place at the University of Amsterdam and several local cultural institutions from 1-3 July 2015. For more information on the conference, please see www.amsterdamcomics.com.
3 ECs will be granted upon completion of participation in the workshop, attendance at all three days of the conference, and writing of a conference response paper on a comics-related subject of your choice (2500 words due 17 July 2015). Please note that participants must be able to attend both the workshop and the conference.
Masters and Research Masters students from universities in the Netherlands who would like to apply should send a short statement of motivation (200 words) and bio (100 words) to drs. Rik Spanjers and Dr. Erin La Cour at firstname.lastname@example.org by 28 May. Please note that the workshop is limited to 15 people.
